What determines the cost of a business website in Malaysia?

A website quote only becomes useful when you know what it includes. A brochure site, an online shop and a customer portal may all be called a business website, but they solve different problems. For a Malaysian SME comparing proposals in RM, start with the customer journey and the responsibilities behind the price.

Define the action before the page count

Write down what a visitor should be able to complete: understand your service, request a quotation, book an appointment or place an order. Then list the pages and steps needed for that journey. A five-page website with complex booking rules can require more work than a larger site with straightforward information.

Separate essentials from later improvements

For a service business, an initial scope might include a homepage, service pages, business information and an enquiry form. Decide who writes the copy, supplies photographs and approves the work. If customers need Bahasa Malaysia and English, allow for translation, review and ongoing updates in both languages. Add payments, accounts or inventory only where they support a defined need.

Compare the same scope in every quotation

Ask each supplier to specify design, content entry, mobile layouts, form delivery, accessibility checks, redirects and launch support. Identify assumptions about third-party systems. A payment or accounting integration needs more detail than a logo on a feature list: which records move, in which direction, and what happens when a request fails?

Account for costs after launch

Request a separate list of domain renewal, hosting, paid tools, maintenance and support costs. Confirm who owns the domain account, source files, content and administrative access. Ask how backups are restored and what support includes. Distinguish a defect correction from a new feature request so future changes have a clear process.

Bring a one-page brief to the first conversation

Include your audience, primary enquiry action, current URL, required languages, content readiness, integrations, target launch window and budget range. Ask for a phased proposal if the full scope exceeds the budget. Codescope Solutions can help shape a first release around the business task, then discuss a quote against that scope rather than an unexplained package price.
